Maximize Your Energy – The Inverter Settings You Can’t Ignore

Did you know that many inverters come with a factory default setting that can significantly reduce the energy you produce?

This feature is called Zero Export. By default, some inverters are configured so that electricity generated is only used to match local consumption. If there is no load at home, the inverter will limit or even stop the output from your solar panels or wind turbine.

This means that even if your renewable energy system is capable of producing power, it may appear as if it is not generating at all. In reality, the inverter is blocking the export of electricity to the grid and even applying braking to your turbine.

Example: Solis Inverter – How to Turn Off Zero Export

  1. Enter the Menu
Press the ENTER (OK) button on the inverter screen.
Go to Settings → Advanced Settings.
  2. Find Zero Export Setting
Menu path is usually: Settings → Advanced Settings → Zero Export
  3. Change the Setting
If Zero Export = ON, switch it to OFF.
    Save the change.
  4. Restart the Inverter
    Exit the menu.
Turn the inverter off and on again (you may need to switch off both DC and AC for one minute before restarting).

Important Notes

  • Always check your inverter’s settings to ensure your system can deliver maximum performance.
  • Make sure your wiring and connections are correct for smooth operation.
  • Zero Export should be set to OFF if you want continuous generation.

Another Key Point: MPPT Tracking

Solar panels have relatively slow voltage fluctuations, but wind turbines behave very differently. Wind speed changes suddenly and sharply, which causes rapid voltage variations.

If MPPT tracking is enabled by default, the inverter often cannot keep up with these rapid changes. As a result, it may stop the system even when your turbine could be producing well.

For wind energy systems, this setting should also be carefully reviewed and adjusted.

Final Recommendation

  • Review your inverter’s settings.
  • Turn off Zero Export if continuous generation is desired.
  • Check and adjust MPPT tracking for wind turbines.

With the correct setup, your panels and turbines will deliver their true performance.
