Atlas Low-Wind Blade Set — Frequently Asked Questions

Honest answers on start speed, siting and compatibility.

It is a set of blades for the Atlas vertical wind turbine, tuned to start generating in winds as low as 2 m/s. Best for typical homes, gardens, rooftops and sheltered or urban sites, it keeps the turbine producing in the light, gusty wind found around buildings.

They begin generating at just 2 m/s — about three times lower than a typical horizontal turbine. That very low cut-in is what makes the Atlas keep working in light breezes where other turbines sit still.

Choose Low-Wind blades for typical homes and sheltered or built-up sites with lighter wind. Pick the Moderate or High-Wind set instead for exposed, consistently windy locations such as hilltops, coasts and ridges, where the stronger-wind blades capture more energy.

Yes — they fit all Atlas vertical turbines and swap onto the standard Atlas mount. The kit includes three blades (each made in two pieces), the blade shaft, flanges and fixings. They are made from high-tech recyclable aluminium, are UV-resistant and run with ultra-low noise.

They do not tear easily because they have a stainless-steel (inox) reinforced structure. Each blade is laser-cut from marine-grade aluminium and strengthened with inox at the root — the point where every gust and rotation concentrates its load — so it will not flex, crack or work loose. That lets the set start generating in the lightest 2 m/s breeze yet ride out strong gusts and storms, staying rust-proof and holding its shape for years.

It depends on your average wind speed. At a typical home site of about 5 m/s the Atlas produces roughly 1,200–1,700 kWh per year with these blades. Use the "Will it pay for itself?" calculator on the Atlas turbine page (Low-Wind blade set) to estimate output for your exact wind speed.
